The Seventh Symphony of Dmitri Shostakovich, named "Leningrad" in honor of the city where the composer was holed up in 1941 during the Nazi invasion of Russia while composing the work, is almost certainly the longest and largest symphony ever created by a Russian composer to occupy a spot in the orchestral repertoire. No Shostakovich "Leningrad" symphony anywhere, at any price, recorded anytime, is superior to this reading. For me, the recording is not a hindrance.

Olli Mustonen plays the solo in Shostakovich's Piano Concerto No. 1, which is in fact Symphony No. 7, an energetic and dramatically charged piece of music.
